to Robert Hallowell, who for decades has worked with
so many TV, film and entertainment celebrities that
he's now remaking his own creations, every time a

This means the looks he's created for Jennifer Love
Hewitt, Bridget Fonda, Sharon Stone, Anne Heche,
Claudia Schiffer, Faye Dunaway and more are always
fair game for sequel play. What are Hallowell's favorite
marquee-remakes of the moment? Looks that show off
texture, lift and shape. Check out his styling tricks,

Kathy
Ireland
How
refreshing and beautiful is Kathy Ireland?! On clean,
damp hair, spray my
Super
Volumizing Tonic through your hair.
Now take your blow dryer and a brush that is not round.
I use these fantastic oval brushes from Olivia Garden called
Turbo
Vent Oval, which are oval with vent bristles on one side
and boar on the other (you get fast drying from the vent
bristles;
tons of shine and sleekness from the boar bristle side).
The oval gives you a slightly different bend to the hair
as well.
There are three sizes, and here I’d use the twin-small.
Blow-dry your hair, as you would with a regular round brush.
When you get to the ear area, do a section of hair flipping
it up and out, leaving a little hair underneath to roll
under. This will give you what I call the inside flip.
When dry rub
a little of my Dream
Cream on your fingertips to gently separate
here and there to add texture and shine. Then mist your
entire head with Love
That Shine Spray. Your hair can’t
be too shiny! A little mist of Rawhold
Hairspray will help
keep
the
look all day and night.
Let’s
get straight to it – this ‘do is easy and carefree!
On clean, damp hair, work a small amount of my prawduct®The
Flat Factor (it’s my straightening balm)
into your hair. Rub it over your palms and fingertips concentrating
on your problem areas, like your front hairline or nape of
your neck. A small section directly on each side of the parting
will assure you will have a polished finish with curly flyaways.
Using
my favorite Olivia Garden paddle brush, the XL Pro Large,
and a blow dryer, brush your hair down from your part
towards the floor.
Once
your hair is dry, run a flat iron through your hair. I
am partial to FHI flat irons, because you can tailor them
to the heat that is appropriate for
your hair type. The all-around standard one I always
carry with
me is the FHI Heat Platform one and a half-inch. Comb
the hair to make sure it has no tangles or knots.
I
lay the hair over or through the comb while the iron is in
between;
this
way you’re sure to get the best results. Move the
iron fairly quickly to save your hair. You can always
do a second
pass if you need. I always take a second pass.
Julia
Roberts, Fergie, Amy Adams, Hayden Panetierre, Jessica
Alba, Carrie Underwood, Amanda Bynes, and Lindsay Lohan
All of these hairstyles
have a similar texture and approach, while the finish is
either an updated Veronica Lake look, like
Amy’s or a tousled look like Jessica or Julia. I’m
going to clue you in on how to get these looks without a lot
of work.
For
all these hairstyles, on clean damp hair spray my prawduct® Super
Volumizing Tonic through your hair, tip your head
over and rough-dry with your favorite dryer. My choice is the FHI
Heat Nano Weight Pro Turbo. It’s half the size
of a traditional dryer, weighs almost nothing and gets your
hair dry in a flash.
When dry, flip your head back over and establish the parting
that suits your face or is appropriate for the style you’ve
chosen.
Let’s
start with Amy’s - The fast way is to use hot
rollers; because they’re so gentle on the hair I choose
Caruso steamrollers. Use the large size and roll your hair
from the bottom up to just above the top of the ears. Use a
fair amount of hair in each roller and directionally roll your
hair down and away from your face.
Allow to cool for about
15 to 20 minutes and then remove. Brush your hair with a boar
bristle brush. My choice is the Olivia Garden Supreme
Combo Brush, as it is anti-static, is charged with
the power of real tourmaline and is a combo of boar and plastic
bristles. Gently
elevate the brush as you approach the ends of your hair. This
will create a little volume at the ends. Follow with a spray
of my prawduct® Rawhold
Hairspray to see the look. You can even
lift the hair from the ends; let it drop and spray directly
up into the hair for extra volume. Finish with a mist of my
prawduct®Love
That Shine Spray for luminous shine.
For
Julia, Lindsay, Fergie, Jessica, Amanda, Hayden and Carrie,
follow the same steps as above, but use the medium Caruso rollers.
To get a curl that’s somewhere between Amy, Fergie and
Hayden, just add a little more hair into each roller and allow
an extra five minutes or so to the setting/cooling time. The
bounce and separation of the curl that Julia and Jessica have
comes from putting less hair onto each medium roller. For Carrie,
wrap the hair tighter onto the roller and don’t set the
top; the same is true for Fergie, don’t set the top.
For the others, roll all the way up to your scalp and candlestick
them. They should have the appearance to be standing up as
opposed to being parallel to the floor. Also, if you roll them
into
each other and away it will create more volume and separation.
It also won’t fall into a wave pattern.
When the rollers have had time to set and cool, remove them
gently shake your hair out. Use some of my prawduct®Love
That Shine Drops, rubbed on your fingertips and palms, and run it
through your hair for extra shine and to create more texture.
Hold on – one list bit! If you like the half up/half
down look that Carrie and Fergie have, place your thumbs at
each temple and bring them around to the back of your head
while grabbing your hair on the way. If you want Carrie’s
look, back-comb the crown a little bit for height and then
establish the right side part with your fingertips. Use a center
part for Fergie. Take the collected hair, twist it in either
direction and pin it down into place with a few bobby pins.
Use some of my prawduct®Rawhold
Hairspray to secure the look,
and for the last two styles,
I would mist over the top and
sides with my Love That Shine Spray as it will give this smoother
hair amazing shine.
Sarah
Jessica Parker, Emmy Rossum,
Lisa Kudrow and Marcia Cross
Wow – are
these girls blessed! The amount of hair just on Sarah is enough
for two. Then you have Shakira, who has enough for three, not
to mention the rest of this beautiful bunch! I’d say
there’s more than enough for 10.
On
clean, damp hair, spray my Super
Volumizing Tonic or work
a little Rawhold
Gel through your hair. Even if you have tones
of hair like these beauties, either of these prawducts contain
goodies to protect from heat or UVA rays. Plus, they help
keep your hair healthy when using a curling iron, brush,
low dryer
or Curlformers.
On
Sarah and Emmy I would use the extra-long and wide Curlformers.
If you’re using an iron go with a combination of one-inch
and one and a half-inch irons. For Marcia and Lisa I would
use the long and wide Curlformers, and only use one color
) they are
color coded). This will give you the large waves or curls
that they have. With an iron, use a one and a half-inch.
If your hair
is like Shakira’s, long and thick, use a combination
of extra-long and wide Curlformers. With an iron you can
use a one
and a half-inch. Choose the part that’s bestfor you,
or do something little different for yourself and go with
a part
just like in the picture.
Once
you have the part, use the appropriate Curlformer by threading
your hair through with the tool provided. Let air-dry and
sleep on them – they’re soft so you can! Then
hit them with a blow dryer, or use an overhead dryer. For
a more tousled
look, use both colors of the Curlformers. The colors denote
the direction of the curl and the effect might really work
well with
this look. When they are dry, pull them out and gently run
your fingers through your hair to separate the curls and
fluff them
up a bit. For serious fluff, tip your head over and shake
while spraying some Rawhold
Hairspray over and through your
hair.
Then tip your head back over and give it another shake to
settle your
hair. Follow with some of my Love
That Shine Drops on your
palms and lightly scrunch your hair, or use a generous spray
of Love
that Shine Spray over your hair. Both will give you that
amazing red carpet shine!
Note: Allowing a little space between Curlformers and your
scalp will give you a straighter and softer top. If you put
them close
to the scalp you will get more curl to the base, more volume
and more texture.
