A
Great Foundation
They say you can’t build a house
that will last without a good foundation. Having
beautiful
hair that will last all day is a lot like building
a house. Like a house or a good relationship, hair
needs a strong foundation to make it last!
Studio hairdressers will use the term building
when creating a hairstyle that will last. In my
book that’s the definition of a good hair day. A day on
the set can be as long as 18 to 20 hours. A bad hair day can seem like an eternity!
I’ve given you quick tips and fun cheater ways to get a celebrity hairstyle
fast and easy, but now it’s time to look at what you can do to look great
all day long.
Over the last few years I’ve built a great foundation with you – and
I thank you. I always give you my honest, professional opinion of what works
best for me to create beautiful hair on beautiful people. I want it to work
for you too! |

| Courteney
Cox and Hilary Duff |
Courteney...
what a beauty! Her skin is so fresh, her eyes crisp and clear
and that hair is shiny like glass. We just wrapped a three-episode
stint on “Scrubs”. It was such fun! What a wonderful
group and a great experience - much like “Dirt” -
my dream job.
To steal both of these looks work a little dollop of my straightening
balm, The Flat Factor, through your hair. If you want a little “fluff” in
your hair like Hilary’s, layer a spray of my prawduct® Super
Volumizing Tonic and then blow-dry your hair upside down. When
it’s almost dry, flip your head back over and use a paddle
brush to brush your hair from front to back and back to front,
ear to ear and back and forth. Hey - let’s call this
my side-to-side technique! I like the Olivia Garden paddle
brush - they make one called the Duo. It has a mirror on the
backside that comes in so handy.
If you’re going for Courteney’s very sleek look,
use a boar bristle brush. Point your blow dryer towards the
floor and brush straight down until dry. Now heat up your flat
iron. I like to use the FHI Heat Platform one-inch flat iron
because I can control the temperature. I would turn the temp
down if your hair is on the light side, like Hilary’s.
This will save it from being damaged from excessive heat. To
keep the fluff, elevate each section as you pass it through
the iron. Elevate the front section at your eyes, but then
flip your hair back while pulling it over the iron plates.
Even thought it’s a flat iron you can create a wave.
Just flip and even the curl with a little flip of the wrist.
To get the sleek quality of Courteney’s look don’t
elevate at all, just pull the iron through towards the floor.
I like to pass each section of hair through my Olivia garden
Carbon-Ion S3 comb (it’s heat resistant and the negative
ions will give extra luster to your hair).
With both looks I would use a generous mist of my prawduct® Love
That Shine Spray. It will literally drench your hair with red
carpet shine!

Cindy
Crawford, Halle Berry and Kristin Davis |
|
Three
shades of beauty! Their hair and skin glow with freshness
without looking like they’re overly made up with stiff-styled
hair. I like it! Let me give you my tips towards your own
fresh expression
of beauty.
I
would take the same approach as we talked about for
Courteney and Hilary, using prawduct® The
Flat Factor, Super
Volumizing Tonic,
paddle brush and my “side-to-side” blow-dry
technique.
For Halle and Cindy I’d set them both
on Olivia Gardens Jet
Set one-inch rollers. They’re like a Velcro, but not. They hold without
the pull of Velcro, and with no need for clips. Let them rest and cool for
10 to 15 minutes. For the extra set and shine that Kristin has, I would pull
out
my Caruso steamrollers. They will produce a stronger curl. Use the large
size for Kristin, and with all three styles, do a simple brick pattern from
the
part area of your hair.
When
cool, gently remove the rollers and mist my prawduct® Rawhold
Hairspray over
the curls. A quick tip to save time and give great shine - spray my prawduct® Love
That Shine Spray over the Olivia Garden Supreme brush and brush
through the hair. It will distribute the shine and organize the curl in one
easy step. Then follow
with a spritz of my prawduct® Rawhold
Hairspray to give a little memory
hold without looking or feeling like a helmet!

Lauren
Conrad, Julianne Hough, Miley Cyrus,
and
Mariah Carey |
|
These four hairstyles
are almost the same, except Lauren’s
curl is a little stronger, and the pattern is broken up, while
Miley and Mariah have side parts. So take your pick as to which
variation best suits your face, or what tickles your fancy,
and let’s get started.
On damp hair mix about a silver dollar size amount of my prawduct® Rawhold
Gel with a quarter size dollop of prawduct® The
Flat Factor over the
palms of your hand. Work it through your hair and then comb
your strands with a wide tooth comb. Now flip your head over
and rough-dry. Spray my prawduct® Rawhold
Hairspray over and through
your hair and follow with a blow dryer to speed up the drying.
Now
heat up your FHI Heat Dome flat iron. Take your first section
at your forehead and pull your hair through the plates straight
out and elevated slightly. Starting at about your lower eye
to cheekbone area, take smallish sections. Using the same flat
iron, slide your hair in sections gently, pulling it across
and through the plates. Pull down and towards the floor, and
at the same time flick your wrists back towards the wall behind
you. Do this on each side of your head until you run out of
hair in the center back. The more flick the more curl you will
achieve. Then brush your hair with the Olivia Garden Bamboo
paddle brush. This brush is for scalp massage, stimulation
and treatments. While it makes your scalp feel great, you will
also be breaking up the texture as the bristles are far apart
- perfect for these hairstyles. Follow with prawduct® Love
That Shine Spray over your entire head and a little prawduct® Rawhold
Hairspray to help secure the
look.
Note: If you’re having troubles flicking the wrist, you
can use a conventional flat iron. Just wrap the hair gently
around the entire iron as it will retain heat and give curl.

| Paris
Hilton, Katherine Heigl and Gywneth Paltrow |
On clean damp hair use my prawduct® Rawhold
Gel, worked
in and combed through well. Blow-dry your hair with the Olivia
Garden Bamboo paddle brush and do my side-to-side technique,
which was used for Courteney’s and Hilary’s styles.
When dry heat up your Caruso steam rollers.
For Gwyneth’s look, take large sections and with large
rollers, set your hair from the crisp center part down. You’ll
probably only use about six to eight rollers in total. Check
the first one after five minutes. If it looks like it has a
soft curl, wrap it back up and let it set for another two minutes,
then remove all the rollers and let them rest for another few
minutes. Take out semi-wide tooth comb. Comb from the part
down to the top of the ears, from the ears down and gently
fluff and separate the ends.
Use a little of my prawduct® Dream
Cream worked over your
fingertips and palms. Run it through the hair to break it up
and give it a more chunky feeling.
For
Katherine, use the small and medium Caruso steam rollers, doing
a traditional brick pattern set. After the last one is
in, hit the entire head with a blow dryer. If you have a diffuser,
use it for about five minutes and let them set for 15 to 20
minutes. Then remove, shake your curls out by running your
fingertips through your hair. This will break up the partings
between the rollers. Brush your hair with the Olivia Garden
supreme boar bristle brush. Brush it straight back several
times; it will start to form waves. Once you see the wave,
spray a little prawduct® Rawhold
Hairspray over the entire head and allow
it to dry. Do this step a few times; it will help give the
wave a memory hold. prawduct® Spray
Love That Shine Spray on tresses
liberally, allow it dry and repeat in five minutes.
Paris
used hair extensions for this glam style. Part your hair from
temple to temple, about two inches above your ears, and
then clip in the extensions. You will probably use two wefts
of hair if your hair is long like Paris’. After you clip
the hair in, take your own and hide it underneath the extensions.
You can either do a few pin curls pinned flat to the head,
or a few small ponytails that you roll towards the scalp and
clip them down. Now set your hair with the large Caruso Rollers
from the part to the floor. Allow them to set for about 15
minutes, remove, mist a little prawduct® Rawhold
Hairspray over the entire
head, allow to dry and then brush through well with the Olivia
Garden Supreme brush. It will begin to fall into large waves
as you brush. Establish a right side part. Brush your fringe
across your forehead and clip it down with a decorative clip.
Mist over the entire head with prawduct® Rawhold
Hairspray, allow to
dry and finger through the hair and extensions to blend them
together. Finish with a generous spray of prawduct® Love
That Shine Spray.

| Nicole
Kidman,
Ali Landry, Emmy Rossum and Taylor Swift |
|
|
A
fun and really easy way to create the texture in all these
styles is to use one of
my favorite hairdressing tools - Curlformers!
They’re so easy. Let me tell you how to use them.
On clean, damp hair spray my prawduct® Super
Volumizing Tonic all over your head and blow-dry your hair until almost dry. Brush
through well and establish the part that looks best on you, or
try something different and do a part that would be completely
opposite of what you’ve done in the past. If you look closely
at all of these looks, the texture goes in the same direction;
pick the Curlformer size for you, using the same color Curlformer
on each side of your head.
For Taylor and Ali I would choose the Long and Narrow Curlformer,
for Nicole’s look I would use the long and Wide and for
Emmy I would use a combination of them both for a more varied
texture. Put them in from your part down. When you have them
all in, either clip them up so they are not hanging from your
head, or use an old fashion hair net to tie them up )this way
you won’t urn the rist of having an odd bend at the scalp)
until you get the hang of using them. Either let them air dry
or sit under the dryer. When they are dry, gently pull them out
and let the curls rest. The resting time, no matter if you curl
or blow-dry your hair, is important because your hair is actually
firming up as it’s cooling down. Use a little prawduct® Love
That Shine Drops worked over your palms and run
it through your hair to gently break up the curls.
Now to get the specifics of Nicole’s variation of the style,
brush out the very top of the hair across the part to soften
the look. Mist a little prawduct® Rawhold
Hairspray over the top and then
tip your head side to side. Spray up into your hair to get some
really nice width.
Taylor and Ali have a sort of loose half-up, half-down look.
Pull your hair from your ears back and slightly up for Ali’s
look. For Taylor pull the same hair back, but don’t pull
up. Secure with a few hidden bobby bins. Use my prawduct® Rawhold
Hairspray to help secure the look
followed with a generous dose of my prawduct® Love
That Shine Spray. |
